A Factory Relocation: Key Considerations

We’re proud to be one of the UK’s leading providers in factory relocation, alongside multiple other industrial services.

Factory relocation is available to clients as a singular service, or a full turnkey solution, both being led by our highly skilled, experienced team to ensure professionalism and a smooth transition during the relocation.

Prior to a factory relocation taking place, there are various aspects of the project that the client and our team need to consider. We explore these key considerations.

Factory Relocation Planning

A factory relocation requires careful and meticulous planning from start to finish. Considering your timescales and the various phases of the relocation will need to happen.

Our Project Managers and relocation specialists are on hand to do this for you from the start of the project.

At this stage, it’s important you – the client – also consider your staff and your business needs. Does production need to continue or can it be halted? This stage of the project is also the best time to consider any challenges or potential risks that may be involved.

During any project, thorough communication is paramount.

There will be multiple teams within your business that will need to be involved. Some of these include HR, Health and Safety, Quality Control and any operational control professionals.

The changes being made will require communicating to wider staff members too as a relocation project impacts everyone in the company.

What is Being Relocated?

Clients need to know what needs relocating and where it needs to be relocated too… But we’ll admit, this is easier said than done.

This is where the AIS Vanguard team steps in and provides assistance.

Factory relocation projects require a detailed floorplan that covers equipment quantities, equipment identification, sizes and weights, locations of all items on the premises and any potential obstacles or challenges. This may include overhead equipment, structures or cables and any aisles, pits or trenches to navigate.

Updating Your Asset Register

Relocations are the perfect time to update your asset register. This helps to provide peace of mind but also helps our team to complete a seamless factory relocation that ticks all the boxes for you.

Check the condition of all your equipment, prior to the project and tag every piece with some method of identification, ensuring it matches your current asset register. When this is done, provide as much detail as possible about the condition of the asset and any requirements for handling the asset.

Operations and Commitments

Factory relocations can have significant impacts on a business’s day to day operations and commitments to clientele. It’s imperative to plan ahead and manage expectations around any potential delays and predicted lead-times to avoid conflict by updating the supply chain on the planned relocation.

Our dedicated Project Managers will be on hand to offer advice, guidance and suggestions to ensure the project is completed with the utmost efficiency and as few constraints as possible on your business.

Every relocation comes with it’s unique challenges, but with AIS Vanguard’s experience of over 40-years, our teams have the skills and expertise to ensure the move is carried out efficiently, effectively and safely for all involved.

Considerations for a Successful Factory Relocation

Factory Relocation:

Changes in manufacturing demand may result in the need to completely relocate heavy machinery in either a complete or partial factory relocation.

Factory relocations and removals can cause major disruption to both production and timescales. We understand lost time leads to less output, so to ensure success, our team always considers the five basic principles.

1. Planning

Moving a factory of any scale poses various questions for both the client and supplier.

– What timescales are you working to?

– What phases of the project need to happen when?

– Can production continue during the relocation?

– Are there any risks we need to consider?

Right from phase one, our Project Managers are on hand to help provide all the answers to ensure a seamless, streamlined move.

2. Take Stock

Clients need to identify all the equipment that requires relocating. However, we appreciate it’s not as easy as just writing a list.

During phase two, the AIS Vanguard team creates a detailed floor plan that covers equipment quantities, equipment identification, sizes, weights, locations of all utilities on the premises and any potential obstacles or challenges that may arise.

These include overhead equipment, structures or cables and any aisles, pits or trenches to navigate.

3. Updating Your Asset Register

A factory relocation is the perfect time to update your asset register. By checking the condition of and identifying all equipment prior to the move. This is something that our team advises you on – if required – to provide you with full peace of mind.

4. Operations

Factory relocations can have a massive impact on day to day operations. It’s therefore crucial to plan ahead and set expectations around potential delays and predicted lead-times to avoid any conflict by keeping your supply chain informed.

Our team’s experience means we offer guidance at every stage so you can be as transparent with your stakeholders.

5. AIS Vanguard’s Promise

Our dedicated project managers are on-hand throughout to ensure relocations are completed as efficiently as possible. Every major move has its unique challenges but with over forty years’, first-hand experience we have the skills and expertise to ensure the move is carried out swiftly and safely.

A Huge Thank You to Our SUPER-6

A Huge Thank You to Our SUPER-6

The COVID-19 pandemic has taught us many things. One of the key lessons learned is that heroes come in all shapes and sizes…and a huge array of job roles.

Amongst those on the frontline of keeping the country moving – in more ways than one – during the pandemic has been our team of HGV Drivers. Dedicated and committed to getting the job done, regardless of the challenges involved, our team of Paul Oxborrow, Peter Bolshaw, Wesley Smith, Mark Robinson, Paul Brown and Ken Woods are now affectionately known as the SUPER-6 here at AIS Vanguard, thanks to their central role in delivering projects during lockdown.

Not only was this team key to our ability to deliver time-critical, complex and diverse projects across the country during lockdown, they were also involved in mobilising the Nightingale Field Hospitals. We were part of the integrated team that transformed events spaces into hospitals within days across the UK, and our SUPER-6 team of drivers were at the sharp end of that challenge, with responsibility for delivering the right assets to the right place, aligned to a time-sensitive programme.

It’s impossible to overstate how proud the company is of the way in which the whole AIS Vanguard team has stepped up and approached the crisis with a can-do attitude so that we could continue to keep our promises to our customers.

Our HGV drivers have taken a no-nonsense approach to getting the job done, day-in-day-out, week after week during lockdown. They have worked far away from home, and often over weekends where necessary, to get the job done safely and on time. They’ve consistently gone the extra mile, not just for the Nightingale Hospital projects, but for every job that needed our involvement. Thanks to our SUPER-6, production equipment has been moved from A to B to keep supply chains running, contributing to the whole national effort; from hospitals to supermarket shelves.

It’s clear that the ‘new normal’ will continue to require an agile approach and can-do mindset and our SUPER-6 have proved that they have those attributes in spades. On behalf of our colleagues, our leadership team and our clients, we want to say thank you to all six of them, we are very proud of what you’ve achieved.
