Start The New Year Right. Get Your Health & Safety In Order

Our Health & Safety Performance last year was amongst the best in the industry, however we cannot become complacent and are always looking for ways to further improve and reduce accidents and incidents.

Our aim this year will see many new initiatives and campaigns aimed at continual improvement of our Health, Safety, Quality & Environmental systems and Compliance.

One of which that has been recently introduced is our “Five Star Point of Works Risk Assessment”

What is it?

A systematic process of evaluating the potential risks that may be involved in a work activity before the work is started.

Despite Ainscough Industrial having detailed and thorough risk assessments and method statements for all work activities, things can and do change unexpectedly on site.

What are the risks?

There may be unsafe conditions, for example site barriers being removed or unsafe acts including not wearing the required PPE by people beyond our direct control, which if they are not eliminated or controlled they could lead to harm or loss.

By undertaking our simple “Five Star Point of Works” daily, before the work starts or when any significant change has occurred we are able to minimize the risks on site.

The Ainscough Industrial “Five Star Point of Works” risk assessment form has been designed to provide an easy and swift means of identifying hazards, assessing the risks and recording any corrective actions taken.

A ‘traffic light’ (STOP, ASSESS, ENGAGE) approach leaves little room for misinterpretation and therefore, provided employees follow the simple procedure and make accurate observations of the working environment, harm or loss may be averted before we start the working process.

The photograph above shows the Five Star Point of Works booklets/questionnaire which every Ainscough Industrial site supervisor will is required to fill in before any site works can begin.

We have designed this system to work quickly and efficiently to deliver safe and quality results on site. If you have any questions about our health and safety processes contact our team online or contact your project manager directly.

Ainscough Industrial Looks To The New Year

2017 has been a successful year for Ainscough Industrial, we’ve worked on a variety of projects this year and we’re looking forward to 2018.

At Ainscough Industrial Services we recently held our company general meeting to discuss the progress of the group over 2017.

CEO Matt Ainscough had the following to say:

As everyone is aware, 2017 has been a difficult year for British manufacturing, with difficult trading conditions and uncertainty in the market with Brexit and interest rates etc.

This uncertainty has resulted in a reluctance for companies to “Press the Button” on Capex and project spend.

However, despite all the uncertainty I am delighted to be able to announce that Ainscough Industrial have recorded a record number of enquiries through 2017 and going in to 2018.

This is due, in no small way, to all the hard work by all the Ainscough Industrial teams at our various divisions, and their desire to “Go the extra mile” for our clients complete satisfaction.

So our forecasts and future pipeline is extremely positive with our sales teams working extremely hard in converting all our enquiries in to firm orders. Here’s looking to a great 2018!

We would like to take this opportunity to wish all of staff and customers a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

We look forward to working with you all again in 2018.

Specialised Engineering Support For The Port Sector From Ainscough Industrial

Port engineering projects require expertise and careful management at all times. At Ainscough Industrial we specialise in complex projects both onshore and offshore.

With our team of highly trained engineers, we are able to utilise our skills and knowledge to undertake many complex projects involving major modifications to ship to shore cranes and dockside cranes.

We recently designed, developed and installed a modular reefer platform system for DP World Southampton.

A custom solution needed to be designed to allow the port operator access to the refrigeration units. The modular system has been designed to be shipped within 40ft containers, as per the clients specifications.

As well as custom portside solutions we are able to repair cranes with minimal disruption to the running of the port. Our engineers completed a contract with Associated British Ports to replace a slew bearing on a Sothert & Pitt DD2 crane at the docks in Ipswich.

The project was completed within 10 days of arriving on site and the port manager commented on how pleased he was with the results.

We are pleased to offer a complete turnkey solution designed with our port customers in mind. For example, our Seward Wyon engineers will travel anywhere at short notice to assess damage to cranes and equipment for insurance purposes. We are capable of designing and fabricating a solution for almost any need.

AIS Assist With Local Festive Preparations

Ainscough Industrial services helped the local Standish community with the erection of the community 5 metre living Christmas Tree in the centre of the village in front of St Wilfreds Church.

The tree was delivered to our Wigan branch where it was then transferred to the back of one of our Hiabs and driven to the church. On arrival the Ainscough team then carefully lifted the tree over the church wall and into it’s final position on the village green.

The tree was very generously bought for the community by the Joseph Holt brewery at a cost over over £2,000, with a crowdfunding campaign by the local residents raising over £1,300 to enable the tree to be fully decorated.

The living tree was organised by the Standish Christmas Decorations Committee, which includes representatives of Standish organisations and councillor Ray Whittingham, which is chaired by Standish Voice committee member Ron Wade.

Ron said: “We would like to give a huge thank you to both Ainscough Industrial Services and Holts Brewery from the community of Standish for their generosity enabling the village to look much more festive this Christmas.”

The official switch on of the Christmas tree lights will take place on the 2nd December in conjunction with the opening of the Standish Christmas market and will be made by the rector of St Wilfreds church.

Relocation For Guide Dogs For The Blind

One of our Ainscough Industrial teams from our Wigan branch were recently called upon to assist with a small lifting project for the local branch of Guide Dogs for the Blind Association.

The relocation project involved the moving of two large heavy items within the local facility.

On the completion of the project the Ainscough management agreed to waive the cost of the project. Instead the money could be put back into the helping of the training of a puppy which could then become a guide dog and help improve the life of someone with little or no sight.

Ainscough Industrial’s Group Engineering Director Stephen Edge commented:

“Ainscough Industrial was delighted to be able to play a small part in supporting Guide Dogs for the Blind Association and the great work they do. The work was local to our Wigan branch who were keen to get involved, moved their schedule a little and offered a helping hand. “
