This involves pre-engineering every manoeuvre, especially through constricted entry points. 
  • RAMS documentation: A comprehensive Risk Assessment Method Statement details every step, every hazard, and the precise mitigation strategy for both the transport and the factory equipment installation. It needs to be signed off by all key stakeholders, ensuring everyone adheres to the same safety and operational script. 

Transport and rigging 

Once the prep has been done, the transport and rigging side of things can start. The move must be carried out in a way that ensures it arrives level and undamaged. Here’s how that happens: 

  • Custom skidding and crating: Complex or sensitive machines often require bespoke skids and specialised packaging to evenly distribute weight and manage vibrations during transit. This customisation safeguards internal components from transport shock and allows for safe loading and unloading by cranes. 
  • Controlled handling: We employ expert rigging teams trained in specialist techniques like hydraulic jacking and skidding. This ensures heavy items are moved with microscopic accuracy through tight spaces— often a necessity when moving factories. Our certified riggers maintain continuous communication during the lift to control the load’s centre of gravity at all times. 
  • Logistics management: For transport on public roads, especially for abnormal loads, all required permits and logistics planning are handled in advance. This prevents costly delays and guarantees compliance with all necessary regulations. This can even include planning police escorts and liaising with local authorities well ahead of the scheduled move. 

 

Phase 2: Power-up and precision installation 

Dismantling the machinery and moving it is only half the job done. Once your machinery is on its new factory floor, the focus shifts to precision placement, levelling, and final commissioning. Placement and levelling 

Accuracy is everything here. An improperly levelled machine will suffer premature wear, mechanical failure, and poor production quality, which will have a knock-on effect for the rest of your factory—and that’s simply not an option for us. Here’s what that looks like in practice: 

  • Final positioning: Using specialist optical and laser levelling equipment, we position your machine to within fractions of a millimetre of the required datum points. This precision alignment is confirmed multiple times before securing to ensure it meets the OEM specification. 
  • Securing the Base: The machine is then securely bolted to the prepared foundation or vibration pads, confirming its stability. We use precision torque tools to tighten bolts to the exact specifications required. This may sound dramatic, but the integrity of your future production relies on this step being perfect.  

Mechanical and utility connections 

This is the moment theory becomes reality: when we connect your machinery to the factory’s infrastructure safely and reliably. This involves: 

  • Mechanical reassembly: This covers the final, careful reassembly of components that were removed for transport. This often requires mechanical fitters who understand the internal workings of the specific equipment being installed. Our fitters meticulously reconnect hydraulic lines, mechanical drives, and protective covers. 
  • Utility connection: Things like electrical, pneumatic (air), hydraulic, and water systems are connected. Crucially, all lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) procedures must remain active until your team is ready for commissioning. We always work stringently to the relevant electrical and safety standards to ensure the connection points are compliant and secure. 

 

Commissioning and handover 

We’re on the home stretch now! However, the project isn’t complete until your machine is operational, accepted by you, and the site is free from debris and safe to work in, so we: 

  • Test run and calibrate: Working with your engineers, we assist in the initial power-up and calibration checks. The machine is run through a pre-agreed series of tests to formally check its output. This ensures your machine performs to the OEM’s specifications.  
  • Decommission the site: All moving and installation equipment is removed, debris is cleared, and the work area is left safe, clean, and ready for your production team. This final clean-up confirms that the environment is safe for your personnel to resume operations.
