AIS Vanguard and the Aerospace Industry

The Aerospace industry requires specialist equipment and the uppermost excellence when it comes to engineering and industrial services. Over the last 40 years, we have gained first-hand knowledge and experience in helping the aerospace industry.

Our Aerospace Industry Commitment

Our mechanical services help businesses across the aerospace industry in a variety of ways, ranging from the movement of single pieces of machinery, machinery maintenance, dismantling, relocation or a complete reinstallation. We also provide complete replacements to manufacturing equipment, thanks to our lifting equipment.

Lifting in small, potentially problematic areas including confined spaces or limited access areas, restricted floor bearings and overhead obstructions is no problem for our equipment or team. Our specialist equipment allows the aerospace project solution to be built around your location and problem, so the project continues without delay.

What we did for Spirit Aerospace

Our team successfully completed a gantry crane lift and relocation for Spirit Aerospace.

The Airbus hanger contained two 71-meter span cranes, with the west crane being in a much better condition of the two. Spirit requested the east crane be removed completed to allow the west crane to move along the gantry into the area where the east crane operated. This is where the majority of their assembly works take place on a new large order that had been secured.

After the west crane had been removed into its new position, the east crane needed to be remounted onto the rails so it can be tested prior to use and then re-commissioned for use. This was completed all within a time frame of just four days.

Considerations for a Successful Factory Relocation

Factory Relocation:

Changes in manufacturing demand may result in the need to completely relocate heavy machinery in either a complete or partial factory relocation.

Factory relocations and removals can cause major disruption to both production and timescales. We understand lost time leads to less output, so to ensure success, our team always considers the five basic principles.

1. Planning

Moving a factory of any scale poses various questions for both the client and supplier.

– What timescales are you working to?

– What phases of the project need to happen when?

– Can production continue during the relocation?

– Are there any risks we need to consider?

Right from phase one, our Project Managers are on hand to help provide all the answers to ensure a seamless, streamlined move.

2. Take Stock

Clients need to identify all the equipment that requires relocating. However, we appreciate it’s not as easy as just writing a list.

During phase two, the AIS Vanguard team creates a detailed floor plan that covers equipment quantities, equipment identification, sizes, weights, locations of all utilities on the premises and any potential obstacles or challenges that may arise.

These include overhead equipment, structures or cables and any aisles, pits or trenches to navigate.

3. Updating Your Asset Register

A factory relocation is the perfect time to update your asset register. By checking the condition of and identifying all equipment prior to the move. This is something that our team advises you on – if required – to provide you with full peace of mind.

4. Operations

Factory relocations can have a massive impact on day to day operations. It’s therefore crucial to plan ahead and set expectations around potential delays and predicted lead-times to avoid any conflict by keeping your supply chain informed.

Our team’s experience means we offer guidance at every stage so you can be as transparent with your stakeholders.

5. AIS Vanguard’s Promise

Our dedicated project managers are on-hand throughout to ensure relocations are completed as efficiently as possible. Every major move has its unique challenges but with over forty years’, first-hand experience we have the skills and expertise to ensure the move is carried out swiftly and safely.

This ensures your business can transition with as little disruption to output as possible.

How Crowdguard Technology is helping Social Distancing

A year since partnering with Crowdguard, the technology developed to deter terrorist attacks is now ensuring social distancing

This July marks one year since we began our partnership with Crowdguard, an innovative, award-winning surface guard product which ensures public safety against the threat of hostile vehicles. A short year ago however, we could not have foreseen how Crowdguard would become an important tool used by city centres in the fight against Covid-19.

Like many UK enterprises demonstrating adaptability since the onset of the pandemic, Crowdguard’s solutions are now employed for very different purpose than originally envisioned – namely, ensuring social distancing in pedestrianised zones within towns and cities.

If you’ve strode through a city centre in the UK during the past few months, you may very well have spotted the pedestrian and bike-friendly structures, and perhaps even passed through one yourself.

The permeable, temporary event security panels are modular and lightweight, and can be fitted securely to any type of road and space. These qualities, combined with the ability to raise and lower the barriers within 30 seconds for the passage of emergency vehicles, make them a flexible and effective tool for promoting social distancing and crowd control.

Amid a rise in walking and cycling by commuters in city centres including Manchester and London, the barriers will play an important role in helping consumers to feel safe and secure as they travel to work, shop or dine out.

Thus Crowdguard is helping local authorities to make the key changes quickly in support of safe movement within cities, measures which will be essential to economic recovery post-lockdown as high-street businesses across the country struggle to bounce back.

About Crowdguard

Founded by our CEO Matt and wife Deborah Ainscough, Crowdguard provides a market-leading solution in the field of Hostile Vehicle Mitigation (HVM), delivering effective products which benefit from innovative design, quality build and rigorous testing.

Crowdguard was developed in response to the growing threat to public safety posed by vehicle ramming attacks in the UK and Europe, such as the Westminster Bridge and Nice attacks, and is a practical measure put in place to protect crowded places and throughout the duration of celebratory events, considered by the government to be ‘soft targets’.

Matt said: “When Crowdguard was created in April 2019 in response to the risks posed from hostile vehicles at crowded events it was always the intention to use the skills and infrastructure of AIS Vanguard to facilitate the logistics of this critical equipment.

“It’s been a busy time and following successful deployment at numerous public events Covid-19 hit in March and Crowdguard evolved to then assist in town and city centre attempts to create more pedestrianised space.

“AIS and Crowdguard are both forward-thinking businesses aiming to offer the very best service to their respective clients and I look forward to seeing both businesses prosper together in the coming years.”

Preparing the Workplace for Socially-Distanced Operational Efficiency

For all businesses, the COVID-19 pandemic has been a commercial curved ball that has required some major re-thinking of operational norms. In the manufacturing and logistics sectors, many companies have had to adjust quickly with measures such as PPE, daily health checks, split shifts and changes to capacity. As we look ahead to an easing of the lockdown restrictions, it’s clear that we will not be going back to business-as-usual, so the question now is how do we prepare for the new normal on the factory floor?
