The recent heatwave, forest fires and flooding incidents around the world have reminded us once again of the urgency of tackling the climate crisis. Not only do we need to find ways to reduce the amount of energy we use; we also need to develop greener alternatives to conventional fuels that are cleaner and more sustainable.
Ainscough Industrial Services is already involved in furthering the efficiency of wind energy generation thanks to the activities of Group company, AIS Wind Energy. At AIS Vanguard, we’re here to support energy companies and the petrochemicals industry as they invest in other areas of clean fuel innovation with our project planning, lifting, moving, decommissioning and installation services.
The Potential of Clean Hydrogen
Amongst the most exciting areas of green fuel innovation is ‘clean hydrogen’. A clean fuel that only produces water when consumed in a fuel cell, hydrogen can be produced from a variety of resources, such as natural gas, nuclear power, biomass, solar energy and wind power. It is an energy carrier that can be used to store, move, and deliver energy produced from other sources.
The versatility of clean hydrogen and ability to use it in combination with existing clean energy technologies has singled it out as an area for investment by some of the world’s leading fuel and energy companies. A new fund seeking to become the first UK-listed company dedicated to clean hydrogen investments has recently attracted Ineos as a cornerstone investor. Meanwhile Shell has recently switched on Europe’s largest Green Hydrogen plant in Germany and Centrica is seeking funding to convert a disused rough gas storage facility in the North Sea for hydrogen storage.
With so much investment and long-term thinking driving change, there will be wide-ranging requirements to establish new facilities, upgrade existing locations and install new machinery, assets and infrastructure.
Services to Support Change
With our wide-ranging experience in the petrochemicals and energy sectors, coupled with our extensive fleet of vehicles and lifting equipment, and our international reach, AIS Vanguard is well-placed to assist in the move towards clean hydrogen.
Initially, this may include assistance with decommissioning redundant assets to enable removal or upgrading to allow the installation of new equipment. Our lifting and moving expertise, including projects in remote, demanding and offshore locations, along with our mechanical and electrical engineering capabilities, means that we can be a valuable partner for any decommissioning project, including projects that involve isolating specific areas of a site while the remainder remains operational.
We can also help with entirely new facilities. From lifting large structures into place, to transporting machinery to site, lifting it into place and installing assets, we have the project management expertise, safety track record and varied lifting equipment needed.
Rising to the Challenge
Climate change is the most challenging threat to the global economy the world has ever faced. Clean Hydrogen is just one of the technologies being pioneered to help the world respond to that threat and it is exciting to see innovative businesses embracing that potential. We are poised to play a role in helping those plans to be realised.
